Event Description

As part of its ongoing webinar series exploring issues germane to transportation finance, the BATIC Institute held a one-hour workshop on workforce development issues facing state DOT finance teams. Among other issues, the webinar explored:

  • Examples of State DOTs that have successfully implemented a plan to build a bench of employees who are primed to assume funding and finance roles in the department.
  • Recruitment strategies to assure candidates have the skills required to successfully work with the federal-aid program and innovative finance techniques.

Workshop participants Jaclyn Hartman, Chief Financial Officer of the Maryland Department of Transportation and Laura Mester, Chief Administrative Officer of the Michigan Department of Transportation, provided an overview of finance workforce development needs and strategies in their states and engaged in a facilitated discussion led by Jack Basso. The webinar concluded with a question and answer session.
